NCC Implements Cost-Effective Headquarter Expansion Using BridgeWave's Gigabit Wireless Links
High-Speed GigE Wireless Connectivity Yields Substantial Taxpayer Savings
Santa Clara, Calif. – Mar. 10, 2010 – BridgeWave Communications, the leading supplier of gigabit wireless solutions, today announced that the National Capital Commission (NCC) has selected BridgeWave's AR60-AES links to deliver high-capacity, secure connectivity. BridgeWave's high-capacity links have saved taxpayer money by allowing the NCC to eliminate substantial upfront or monthly network connectivity expenses, yielding a return on investment (ROI) in 20 months.
A Canadian Crown corporation, the NCC administers federally owned lands and buildings in Ottawa, Ontario, the capital of Canada. The NCC recently expanded and had to relocate some employees to a remote location which needed connectivity to support user's industrial and graphic design work. It was essential for the expansion to also effectively support Internet and corporate database access and HR and finance applications at the new office.
The Commission looked at various options to supplement their existing copper infrastructure. Installing fiber was their initial choice, but due to right-of-way installation issues and longer ROI payback for a building that may not become permanent, it was eliminated. They also looked at fiber-equivalent wireless options that could support their remote office and stay within budget. Given that the NCC had to comply with government data security policies, security was also of high importance in their consideration.
In the course of their research, BridgeWave's AR60 with Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) stood out as the best solution for performance, budgetary and security reasons. The NCC determined that the ROI on BridgeWave was superior to other options, paying for itself in as little as a year and a half. Moreover, the narrow beamwidth of the BridgeWave links create "virtual pipes" for mission critical applications, making signal interception near impossible. BridgeWave's AR60-AES gigabit wireless links contain built-in 256-bit AES encryption, the strongest encryption commercially available.
Another major consideration for using BridgeWave gigabit links was the ability to maintain server centralization. As full-rate gigabit connectivity was available between locations, the NCC did not have to procure additional servers and the associated backup infrastructure for the new office. Installing servers at the new office would have cost more than the entire BridgeWave solution and would have complicated the deployment and the ongoing support.
“BridgeWave's high-capacity links enable us to provide better public service at less cost to the taxpayer,” said Gary Cotton, Senior Telecommunications Analyst for the NCC. “With network ROI achieved in 18 to 20 months and no substantial fiber installation or monthly fiber connection costs, this network expansion has been a success for NCC.”
“BridgeWave's GigE links give us the ability to offer the same experience to remote users as those who are wired in the main building,” said Danielle Rioux, Director of Information Technologies and Geomatics Services for NCC. “The satellite office was concerned about having a different infrastructure from headquarters, but the end-users are pleasantly surprised to receive the same network services needed for their jobs.”
The NCC installed two BridgeWave AR60 links with AES capacity in only three days. From the moment of installation, BridgeWave's gigabit wireless links operated perfectly, giving the NCC the high-speed connectivity needed to drive their expansion.
“Given budget constraints and security demands, government agencies have no room for error when choosing wireless networking solutions,” said Amir Makleff, president and CEO of BridgeWave. “For this reason, agencies like the NCC partner with BridgeWave for the superior network performance and security needed to serve the public well, while getting the most for the taxpayer's dollar.”
