BRIDGEWAVE'S FLEXPORT80 ACHIEVES EUROPEAN UNION CERTIFICATION, ENABLING CARRIER-CLASS WIRELESS BACKHAUL FOR 4G NETWORKS

New 80 GHz products certified to comply with stringent European Union requirements

Santa Clara, Calif. – Oct. 20, 2009 – BridgeWave Communications, the leading supplier of gigabit wireless systems, today announced that its FlexPort 80 GHz TDM+IP multi-gigabit wireless links have received Notified Body Expert Opinion (NBEO) validating its performance conforms with the European R&TTE Directive 1999/5/EC. This Directive covers essential requirements for Safety, RF Exposure, EMC and Radio Spectrum necessary for placing the product on the European market.

BridgeWave's FlexPort millimeter wave product is the second product within its family to receive the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) certification. Last year, the company demonstrated compliance of its Gigabit Ethernet 80 GHz systems with the ETSI Draft Recommendation EN 302 217-3 V1.3.1 on its first day of publication.

BridgeWave's FlexPort 80 GHz wireless links have been tested by Compliance Certification Services (CCS), a NVLAP-accredited Electro Magnetic Compatibility (EMC) Test Laboratory. CCS provides compliance and test services on cutting edge wireless standards, including the ETSI requirements for 70 GHz and 80 GHz wireless links.

“As European carriers and mobile operators migrate to next generation LTE and 4G technologies, gigabit wireless links will play a crucial role in the backhaul of these networks,” said Michael Heckrotte, director of Engineering at CCS. “BridgeWave's FlexPort product was designed with the needs of these next generation networks in mind. European regulators and operators can be assured that as tested, FlexPort80 meets the stringent ETSI requirements for wireless performance and safety.”

“FlexPort is the first millimeter wave system to include frequency agility based on the ECC REC 05/07 recommendations and the first tunable and channelized 80 GHz system to conform to ETSI standards,” said Amir Makleff, BridgeWave president and CEO. “FlexPort is a testament to our continued leadership in bringing to market the necessary feature sets mobile operators need to economically migrate their legacy 2G/3G networks to build out next generation LTE or WiMAX 4G networks.”
